Role Summary/Purpose This opening is for Staff Engineer-Engine Design & Reliability in Engine Component COE, Bangalore. This position will be focused on mechanical design, application, validation and production support for diesel engine & its components. The job will entail involvement in engineering Proposals, new application development, New Product Introduction, New Technology Introduction, Productivity & Reliability improvement projects. Essential Responsibilities
1) Lead large diesel engine component design & development for various engine programs to meet performance, reliability, cost & weight targets 2) Lead requirement analysis, develop technical specifications & evaluation criteria to meet the requirements, develop multiple concepts & select the optimum solution for detailed engineering. 3) Carry out Detailed engineering design including DFMEA, engineering calculations, materials selection, verification & validation, manufacturability & serviceability study while meeting the project schedule & performance requirements 4) Responsible for writing System Functional Specification, component design specification, design guides & templates 5) Responsible for writing validation plans, Manufacturing/assembly/service instructions and do follow through 6) Drive culture of innovation/ideation & IP generation 7) Drive six sigma process rigors to continuously improve the quality of output 8) Responsible for business metrics related to design reviews, project management, schedules and quality 9) Communicate project status, schedules, upcoming deliverables, and technical solutions between various teams. Method of communications to include, but not limiting to, design review process, reliability review meetings and team meetings.
Qualifications/Requirements
1) Bachelor degree in Mechanical engineering with 10 to 15 years of experience in diesel engine design, development & testing 2) Good understanding of design boundary conditions, calculations & evaluation criteria for engine cylinder head, crankshaft, critically loaded bolted joints etc 3) Good understanding of materials & manufacturing processes such as castings & forgings 4) Good understanding of engineering drawings, GD&T standards 5) Proficiency in design, test & analysis tool relevant to job function 6) Proven Project management, influencing & communication skills
Desired Characteristics
1) Advanced degree is a plus 2) Experience with large diesel engine design, development & testing 3) Min one product life cycle experience starting from concept development till field overhaul 4) Six sigma GB/BB certification or use of statistical methods in engineering design 5) Proven ability to drive/embrace change & drive innovation 6) Proven problem solving, analytical skills & new idea generation 7) Good understanding of mechanical interface needs 8) Good understanding of engine component physics & materials 9) Working knowledge of design tools such as GT Suite, AVL Excite & ADAMS 10) Working knowledge of reliability engineering tools such as ALTA, Weibull 11) Good interpersonal, communication and organizational integration skills
